Am I eligible for VAT Exemption?
Find out below who qualifies for VAT Exemption.
Claiming VAT Relief
What is VAT Exemption?
You don't have to pay VAT on certain goods, repairs, services, spare parts and maintenance if you have a long-term condition, illness or are disabled.
What counts as a long-term illness or disability?
To get the product VAT free your disability has to qualify. For VAT purposes, you're disabled or have a long-term illness if:
- you have a physical or mental impairment that affects your ability to carry out everyday activities, for example blindness or arthritis.
- you have a condition that's treated as chronic sickness, like diabetes
- you're terminally ill
You do not qualify if you're elderly but not disabled, or if you're temporarily disabled. If you would like to check the VAT regulations, details can be found by clicking here to visit HMRC Notice 701/7, VAT Relief for Disabled People.
